Switch to the new Fictivity Android app

If you downloaded Fictivity from the Play Store before January 2026, the app you have has been deprecated and replaced by a new one with the same icon and name. We've provided instructions for transferring your data to the new app below.

We understand this can be a little confusing, but we think you'll make the switch without issue. You can find the reason for the deprecation at the end of this page. The Fictivity iOS app is unaffected by this change.

Transfer your data to the new app

Transferring your data to the new app is similar to syncing a new device.

  • In the deprecated app, go to You /Settings → Data & Syncing, and export a backup file, or backup to cloud if you have it set up.
  • When you launch the new app, choose “Get started” if you don't have an account, or “Log in” if you have one. In the next screen, choose “Load data”, then import the file or load from cloud. If you missed this screen, simply go through the new user flow until you can access the Settings page. Then visit the Data & Syncing page to import the file.
  • You can move your downloaded fics similarly: export them in the deprecated app, and import them in the new app.
  • Once you’ve verified that your data is transferred to the new app, you can delete the deprecated app.
  • Please note that logging into your account in the new app does not automatically carry your data over.

How to tell the new app and the deprecated app apart

  • If you installed the new app via the .apk file, its icon should contain the word “APK”.
  • If you installed the new app via Google Play, check the small text at the bottom of the Settings page. It should end with “PLAY” on the deprecated app, and “GPLAY” on the new app.

How this change affects PRO subscriptions

  • If you have an active PRO subscription purchased through the Play Store, you can continue to access your benefits on any device.
  • However, your subscription will not auto-renew when your current cycle ends. You can resubscribe through the new app or our website if you wish.
  • You cannot subscribe to PRO in the deprecated app.

Reason for deprecation

In late December 2025 Google Play removed the app for its store listing that “violated policies”. Shocked and baffled, we appealed the decision, but Google refused to explain how the app has violated policies or reinstate the app. We were allowed to distribute the app in the Play Store only as a new app, therefore the copy you have can no longer be supported.

Additional information about installing Fictivity via the .apk file

An .apk file is a standard way of installing Android apps directly from developers. Your device might discourage you from installing apps outside of app stores by suggesting the file might be unsafe. When you install Fictivity through the .apk file downloaded from our official website, it is exactly the same app as the Play Store version, and is perfectly safe.
